I thought the book broke down the word “genre” clearly. When we were in class on Monday, Mat asked what genre was and no one really spoke up or seemed to know what it was, but being reminded again of what it is, makes it easier to understand. We all know what genre means, but we had to delve into the textbook to discover the definition. We all know what “genre” is because we see it every day, whether it is in a book or whether it is a specific type of music, it has a genre. Movies have so many type of genres that we may overlook as a genre and may even consider it as the type or theme of the movie. Whether it is a movie or a piece of literature, there is so much that goes into the development of what genre the final piece will exemplify. For example, a writer must first create a concept or plot for what he is writing about, but then depending on the writer is where the genre can take you. The writer could choose to take the work in the direction of a comedy, or even do a combination of a romantic-thriller, there are so many different genres that writers can choose to take their direction of the story in.
